If not, let us tell you a little history about our little Sachse, TX. In 1845, Sachse was founded by William Sachse, a 25 year old European immigrant from Herford, Prussia. Purchasing 640 acres from Collin County, he built the first cotton mills and gins in the county. After Sachse gave 100 feet of frontage through all of his holdings to the railroad in 1886, the railroad built a depot on the frontage and named the town Saxie. Since the depot was labeled ‘Saxie’, many old legal documents referred to the city as ‘Saxie’. The word Sachse comes from the German word for Saxon. The mistake was later corrected reflecting the proper spelling. The first school in Sachse was built by the State of Texas on the corner of Sachse Road and Billingsley Street. The next school, located at Third and Dewitt Streets, was built in the early 1900s. It was a three-story building that was also used for town meetings. During the 1920s, a new one story red brick school house was built on the same site and remained the school house for Sachse children until the 1930s when the red brick school house was razed. The city was incorporated in 1956, Sachse adopted its Home Rule Charter in 1986 and now operates under a Council-Manager form of government.
