Here is a little history for you new comers to our great little town. A number of pioneers had already settled the area that would become Anna about 40 years before the town was was platted in 1883. At that time it had a population of twenty, a post office, two stores, a steam gristmill and a Baptist church. In 1885 the Houston and Texas Central Railway built a depot in town and by 1890 the town had a population of 100 to 200. The first major construction of brick storefronts came in 1904 and Anna was incorporated in 1913, with John L. Greer as first mayor. Ralph Fults, a Depression-era outlaw and escape artist associated with Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, was born in Anna just prior to its incorporation. Nowadays, Anna is a bedroom community to Dallas, Plano and McKinney and has been designated as one of Texas’ safest cities/places in 2017 and 2018.
